Type of boat: M/v "Plancius" was built in 1976 as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Dutch Navy and was named "Hr. Ms. Tydeman". The ship sailed for the Dutch Navy until June 2004 and was eventually purchased by Oceanwide Expeditions.

The vessel was completely rebuilt as a 114-passenger vessel in 2009 and complies with the latest SOLAS-regulations (Safety Of Life At Sea). M/v "Plancius" is classed by Lloyd's Register in London and flies the Dutch flag.

Crew: M/v "Plancius" is manned by 17 nautical crew, 19 hotel staff (6 chefs, 1 hotel manager, 1 steward-barman and 11 stewards / cabin cleaners), 8 expedition staff (1 expedition leader and 7 guides-lecturers) and 1 doctor.

Cabin Facilities: M/v "Plancius" accommodates 114 passengers in 53 passenger cabins with private toilet and shower in 5 quadruple private cabins, 38 twin private cabins (ca. 15 square meters) and 10 twin superior cabins (ca. 21 square meters).

All cabins offer lower berths (either two single beds or one queen-size bed), except for the 5 quadruple cabins (for 4 persons in 2x upper and lower beds).
Amenities: The vessel offers a restaurant/lecture room on deck 3 and a spacious observation lounge (with bar) on deck 5 with large windows, offering full panorama view. M/v "Plancius" has large open deck spaces (with full walk-around possibilities on deck 3), giving excellent opportunities to enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
Tenders: She is furthermore equipped with 10 Mark V zodiacs, including 40 HP 4-stroke outboard engines and 2 gangways on the starboard side, guaranteeing a swift zodiac operation.

There is a drying spot for your drysuit en equipment. No hassle to bring your suits and gear into your cabin.
Meals & Drinks: Excellent cuisine, prepared by international chefs, is served in the dining room, which also acts as the lecture room. The ship has an observation lounge with bar where you can read and relax and have a drink. There are plenty of interesting books about the history, flora and fauna of the areas we visit.

Payment onboard: Upon embarkation, an account will automatically be opened for each passenger for purchases aboard ship. This will include bar services, laundry, communication charges, souvenirs, laundry, etc. An account for payment will be presented on the final day of the voyage.

Final payment can be made using cash, or major credit cards - Visa and MasterCard. All prices are in Euros. Personal checks are NOT accepted on board.
Electricity onboard: The electrical supply on board is 220 volts, 50 hertz. The electrical outlet sockets are the standard European two round pin system. Passengers coming from countries with a different system will need to bring a suitable adapter.
Security: The ship complies with the highest international safety and invironmental regulations, as well as the Arctic and Antarctic shipping guidelines.

The vessel is also equipped with a medical infirmary with an adequate supply of western medicines and equipment. There will be a Western physician on board. We cannot guarantee to have every drug or piece of equipment for every medical problem. If passengers are under regular treatment for any ailment, they must bring a more than adequate supply of medicines for the duration of their voyage. We cannot accept responsibility for not having a specific brand or type of drug on board. If passengers suffer from any potentially serious illness, they should inform us prior to the voyage so that we can alert the doctor to their condition.

Rates Remarks: All rates are quoted per person in EURO, based on twin occupancy. EURO rates apply for all sales within Europe. 5% Discount will be granted for bookings for one or more consecutive voyages. Please note that all dates & rates are subject to change. All voyages will operate subject to a minimum of 70 participants on the Plancius.

- On Scoresby Sund voyages: Transfers and baggage handling between Reykjavik hotels and ship in Akureyri by coach (5 hours) and vice versa.
- On Rembrandt voyages: Transfers and baggage handling between airport and ship in Greenland harbours on the chartered group flights.

Any airfare (except for the above mentioned included flights on voyages PLA22, PLA23 and PLA24), whether on scheduled or charter flights; pre- and post land arrangements; transfers to the vessel; passport and visa expenses; Government arrival and departure taxes; meals ashore; baggage, cancellation and personal insurance (which is strongly recommended); excess baggage charges and all items of a personal nature such as laundry, bar, beverage charges and telecommunication charges; and the customary gratuity at the end of the voyages for stewards and other service personnel aboard (guidelines will be provided).

It is agreed that if world fuel prices will reach or exceed US Dollar 80 per Barrel Brent 90 days prior to departure Oceanwide Expeditions reserves the right to levy a fuel surcharge of EURO 18 per passenger per night, to be paid by the contracting party of Oceanwide Expeditions.

Any airfare, whether on scheduled or charter flights; pre- and post land arrangements; transfers to / from the vessel outside Spitsbergen; passport and visa expenses; Government arrival and departure taxes; meals ashore; baggage, cancellation and personal insurance (which is mandatory); excess baggage charges and all items of a personal nature such as laundry, bar, beverage charges and telecommunication charges; and the customary gratuity at the end of the voyages for stewards and other service personnel aboard (guidelines will be provided).

It is agreed that if fuel prices will exceed US Dollar 90 per Barrel Brent 90 days prior to departure Oceanwide Expeditions reserves the right to levy a fuel surcharge of EURO 18 per passenger per night, to be paid by the contracting party of Oceanwide Expeditions.
